Born in 2989 YA to a guard at the Tower of Hope, Shihan's life was simple and easy for most of his childhood. After the death of his mother during childbirth, he was brought up by his father in the main district of Atlantis's lower apartments. The first born of twins, he was caring and protective of his sister, a trait he learned from his father. However, when his father died during the Hope Disaster of 3002, he and his sister were placed in an orphanage, as they had no other family in the city. He met Blade, and the two became close friends as they went through school. He remained extremely protective of his sister, who had became introverted after the death of their parents.
It was only the chance meeting of his later girlfriend, Melaine, in his final year that gave him the confidence to take up Warrior Studies alongside Blade. He is one of the more talented students, since he is in the program through an orphanage scholarship.
